Bostonians, ever loyal to their Patriots, feel no love for the New York Jets already, so they will get a good chuckle out of the fact that the newest Jet, the ever-controversial Tim Tebow now has a sex bounty on him, reports Houston Chronicle.
A website devoted to adultery and other mature subjects has put a million dollar Tim Tebow sex bounty to the first woman that can show proof of having slept with football's good boy. Good luck, but at least you won't be competing with Kim Kardashian.
But while all of this is fun and games, many issues could arise down the road, particularly if a woman falsely alleges having slept with Tebow (no chance of that happening, really). Depending on how detailed the description of the sexual encounter with Tebow, the upright football star may be put in the position of having to pursue defamation claim against the anyone who made such a claim.
It might seem strange that an adult man could be inclined to sue women that claim to have slept with him, but Tebow has a carefully tended reputation. So, what would Tebow have to do to win a defamation suit?
Generally speaking, in order to win a defamation lawsuit, you must show that:
- Someone made a statement;
- that statement was published;
- the statement caused you injury;
- the statement was false; and
- the statement did not fall into a privileged category.
But Tebow is a celebrity. So he would have to deal with the fact that there is a higher burden for him because he is a public figure. People in the public eye get less protection from defamatory statements because they are considered part of the discussion on important (or in this case not so important) issues of public interest.
As for those Tim Tebow sex bounty hunters? Good luck to you.
