There's been another recall for salad-lovers.
Boston personal injury lawyers are warning herbivores to beware the alfalfa sprout.
This new recall comes several weeks after a lettuce recall, which affected lettuce sold to restaurants and salad bars. The new recall is a lot more widespread and affects alfalfa sprouts sold at Trader Joe's and Walmart stores.
Caldwell Fresh Foods Inc., a California based company, has announced a nation-wide recall of alfalfa sprouts. The alfalfa recall was announced on Friday and was based on the concern that the alfalfa sprouts were contaminated with salmonella bacteria.
The brands affected were Caldwell Fresh Foods, California Exotic and Nature's Choice. There have been over 20 reported illnesses as a result of the alfalfa sprouts.
At this time, there are no reported deaths, but there are four reported hospitalizations.
Boston personal injury lawyers often face many questions surrounding the issue of salmonella and how it can affect a consumer. NPR had a very good explanation on its blog. Essentially, raw sprouts need to grow under warm and humid conditions. These conditions, unfortunately, are also very conducive to the growth of several bacteria, including Salmonella, Listeria and E. Coli.
Symptoms of salmonella usually involve stomach ailments, including stomach cramps, fever and diarrhea. While the symptoms don't sound too hazardous, they can be fatal in small children and in the elderly.
If you've suffered illness as a result of consuming the recalled alfalfa sprouts, talk to a Boston personal injury attorney today. A Boston personal injury lawyer can help you determine what your legal remedies are in your case.
